Favourite recipe

There are two main things that I am often requested by my friends and family to make (excluding meals); my cookies and apple pies. My younger sister in particular asks about the pies…yes Vix I’m looking at YOU!!! 😉 xxx

For you, here is my apple pie recipe ;

This recipe makes 12 to 18 pies depending on the size of the tins and the thickness of the pastry. This is such a simple recipe but yummy …I promise!!

For the pastry
4 oz Self raising flour
10 oz plain flour
4 oz Caster sugar
8 oz butter
2 egg yolks
2 Tablespoons water

Filling
2 to 3 large cooking apples (you can use regular apples if you like but don’t use the sugar if you do.)
Caster sugar for sprinkling into the pies .

Step 1; Mix the flour and sugar together then rub into the butter until it resembles breadcrumbs.

Step 2; add egg yolks and water and mix it into a dough ball

Step 3; chill for 30 mins

step 4; roll out pastry , cut out circles for top and bottom parts of the pie …slightly bigger for the bottom part, I always keep a bit of extra pastry for little love hearts for the tops ( adds a bit of love into the baking and is a great finishing touch!!) WP_20130407_002WP_20130407_003

step 5; peel and cut up your apples…(I cut them quite small) and fill up your cases and sprinkle 1/4 to 1/2 tsp of sugar over the apples

step 6; put your lids on using water to line around the edge of the top pastry circle (the same for your heart/other shape )WP_20130407_004

Step7 ; Bake at gas5/180 c for 25 to 30 mins until golden brown

step 8; leave to cool then dust lightly with caster (optional)????????????????????????????????

There you have it , yummy apple pies…easy but one of my favourite recipe’s nonetheless 😉 xxx
