Some things that I love #2

Some things that I love #2

Another week has past!! So this week I have spent time with my gorgeous niece, attempted some furniture restoration e.g fixing my chester draws!!!, had exciting time cleaning and enjoyed the obligatory chats with chums !! Now onto the rest of the things I have been loving this week;

Some thing I read……

Well after successfully finishing The fault with our stars; John Green which was such an emotional journey (The sign of a good book!!)…I then went onto starting Life of Pi ;Yann Martel :This book is no quick read but what I have read of it so far is so sincere and is beginning to draw me in ….. I’ll keep you posted with how I get on with it next week !!

life of Pi

Some thing I watched ……

Run Fat Boy Run; Directed by David Schwimmer (Friends) starring Simon Pegg, Thandie Newton & Hank Azaria. This film is not the newest but it’s been on my list to see for a while. It came through the post with our Lovefilm subscription this week … so last night I sat on the sofa with my gorgeous hubbie and we watched it together. The story starts with Dennis(Simon Pegg) jilting a heavily pregnant Libby (Thandie Newton) …the rest of the film is his attempt to win her back from the seemingly perfect Whit (Hank Azaria). Some of my top highlights were when Dennis goes for a spinning class with Whit !! … I also loved Mr Goshdashtidar (Harish Patel) such a warm and funny character !!

(Source)

Overall thoughts; the story flowed well and there were some good comedy moments balanced with a little “ahhhhh” factor with the relationship between Dennis and his son ….well worth a watch!!

Something I wore……

Jogging clothes ; This week I have been attempting to get back into jogging regularly with the help of my lovely friends Nicola and Laura .Therefore my jogging gear is something I have been pulling out of the wardrobe … just simple sports top from Primark and cropped jogging bottoms from my local sports shop.

Something I listened to……

As I stupidly broke my phone last week ( left it on top of a car which then fell off the car and got run over …. #FAIL OF THE WEEK!!!!) …my husband kindly replaced it with a Nokia windows phone which has Nokia music; like having a radio on your phone. It has current chart music that you play and then skip which tracks you don’t like … very handy and this morning my daughter was dancing all the way to school hearing it!! It also played one of favourite old tracks Iris (Goo Goo Dolls);

I have also been listening to John Denver …. might be a bit random but I like to hear his songs and remember someone special. Instead of picking one of his more sombre tracks I’ve picked an upbeat one; Thank God I’m a country boy !!!

Some thing I can not live without……

My camera !! ( My photography loving friend Mary has finally converted me !!) ….I have not always been best friends with my camera …. it was neglected and unloved but fairly recently that’s changed!! I have been loving taking pictures…. so much so I have begun to nag my hubbie for an upgrade!!! … I think I might need to save a few pennies to get a nice one, but this shows how far I’ve come 😉 !!!!!

So those are the things I’ve been loving this week , I hope you all have a fab weekend …I wanted to send love out not just to the fab dads (It’s father’s day weekend in the U.K) but to those whose dads are not around for what ever reason AND NOT forgetting the amazing mummies who work hard too ….BIG LOVE TO YOU ALL ….have a GOOD ONE !!! xxxxxxxx

Reading stories is in my mind one of the best things to do with your children. Engaging one on one in your own little virtual adventure with them ….getting lost in the character’s and the new world’s together. I love it !!!! I think it gives you opportunities to talk ,sometimes opening up discussions about things that are worrying them …or just a chance to giggle together !!!

I asked the kids to pick up a few of their favourites to share with you guys ….some of them look a little tatty around the edges as they have been read again and again ….ALL of them we LOVE xxx

Ten ways to help make you happy (Motivational Monday #2)

Ten ways to help make you happy

For this weeks motivational monday I thought I would share ten things that might help perk you up a bit ….well they do for me !!! If at least one of the things on my list helps then it’s worth it !! Xx

1)Chatting to the people you love ; Just being around my kids,husband,family and friends is a sure-fire way to get a smile on my face …so that’s a good start !! Whether I am happy or sad chatting to people helps to pick me up …. I am naturally a people lover and feel more relaxed when I have company .Having said that even if you’re not naturally inclined this way even having a simple phone conversation when you’re feeling stressed is useful ….cliché but sharing really can help !!

2)Baking ; This makes me happy on so many levels !! Baking really does stimulate the senses , smell ,touch ,sight and taste ….even the sound of my beloved bread machine can bring that happy feeling into my heart!! 😉 . This is also an activity which I happily share with my children and is a great rainy day option !!

3)Being outside and gardening ; I love (bold) gardening and the smell of mud !!! Yes the smell of mud ….must bring back happy childhood memories of making mud pies (I was always a bit of a tom boy!!) and helping mum outside with the plants . When I am out turning over the mud and sitting down weeding I am in my element …ask my hubbie he’ll tell you !! The fresh air is good for you too and can help raise those vitamin D levels , this in turn can aid to combat that nasty sad feeling !!

4)Painting your nails or having an at home pamper ; This one might not be for everyone, but a nicely manicured nail always brings a smile to my face.If you don’t feel like that then a good long soak in the bath with some candles lit is another great way to treat yourself ….maybe use an oil burner and get some beautiful new fragrances to smell !!!

5)Listening to music ; I’m sure most people would agree on this one as it’s just an instant pick me up .I did a recent post on my Top albums ( music love ) so check that out if you’re interested !!

6)Exercise; Now this does make me happy but I can appreciate if you’re feeling low it’s probably the last thing on your mind to do !! If you can bring yourself to it you’ll be pleased you did as I always feel a real sense of achievement after my work outs ….Davina McCall’s Range of exercise DVD’s are fab and very easy to follow !! I’m not very coordinated but can manage to follow her workouts quite quickly .

source (info about importance of exercise and a healthy heart)

7)Go to the cinema or watch a film; With Lovefilmand Netflix watching new movies is easier than ever . Even if don’t feel like a night out at the cinema there’s plenty available else where.I tend to head for a good Rom-com first though especially if I’m down ….The classic Bridget Jones with the gorgeous Colin Firth (sidenote ;who in my opinion has aged very well !!! ) and Hugh Grant never fails to make be bop around the lounge and croon “All by myself !!!! ” The soundtrack to this film is ace too!!

8)Writing things down ; Since I’ve started this blog I can really appreciate the value of writing . The very process of putting pen to paper (and in my case then re typing on a computer!!) is quite cathartic and very relaxing.Obviously not all of you have to rush out and blog (you can if you want to !!) but if you don’t already maybe keeping a diary or a notebook would be a good idea!! This way you have a place to keep your memories & thoughts xx

9)Walks and observing the world around you ; I know I mentioned being outside before but taking time for yourself or even with family to go on walks is a wonderful way to make you happy. Sometimes we are all so caught up rushing here and there that we forget to notice all the beautiful little things in our world. Whether it’s the bluebells right outside our door or that Green Woodpecker fetching bits for his nest ….just taking in your environment properly as you walk can really help to lift your mood . If you do enjoy things of this nature (excuse the pun!!) then check out Josie’s blog ( The Finch’s Beak her separate lifestyle blog )

10)Reading ; I love settling down to a good book ,I think you get a sense of achievement for every book you read !! This in turn can help to boost your self-esteem !! ( recent post about my favourite books )

So there you have it my Motivational Monday post is done ; Ten ways to make you happy ….Let me know the things you do to make yourself or others smile !!! Xx

Saturday Summary; June comments challenge

Saturday Summary; June comments challenge

The June comments challenge was set up by Bonjour Blogger ,the challenge being to in the month of June to comment on at least 5 blogs a day. I think this is such a great idea as there can be moments where you read a blog and can often forget to leave a comment….I’m quite quick to click the like button but on occasion forget to leave feedback. On my blog I appreciate it when people take the time to write something down ,so it is only fitting that I make a more concerted effort to return the favour .

I only officially started the challenge on Wednesday but have definitely filled my quoter the previous days…..with this challenge I am aiming not only to comment on my “regular blogs” but to find new ones to read and comment on them too !!

I have picked 5 posts that I loved and commented on this week ;

I felt I could relate to her experience in some small way having given birth around the same time as my dear dad’s diagnosis. A period of such happiness bound by a the extremes of seeing someone you love in so much pain.I hope that these posts do as intended and raise the much-needed awareness and funds for Cancer research….I’m sure they will 🙂 xxxx.Well done to the all the guest bloggers for sharing their “stories” xxxx
